My iSurvived Story
I experienced a marijuana drug-induced psychotic episode 5 years ago at the age of 27. After a psychiatric assessment, I was involuntarily admitted into rehab. I experienced daily suicidal thoughts. I caused broken relationships with family and friends. It was the hardest 9 months of my life.
The entire time I was in denial that something was wrong. Then there were 2 events that made snap out of it. I have not shared this with many people but if you are reading this I will share it with you. First, I was robbed of over $1,000 and many personal belongings after getting mixed in with the wrong crowd. Shortly after, two lifelong family friends came to visit me one day. I saw the pain in their eyes when they saw unhealthy I looked. When they left I went and looked in the mirror. I did not recognize the person I saw. This was a critical moment in my life.
At this time, I reached out to my parents. I am extremely blessed and fortunate to have my parents. I apologized for everything I had done. I asked them for help and committed to getting sober and quitting smoking weed. After coming to an agreement, they let me move back home. This saved my life. It took about 6-7 months for me to recover. I slept 12-14 hours every day. I could feel my brain rewiring itself.
Today I am 5 years sober from smoking marijuana. Through a lot of hard work, discipline and faith I have been able to turn my life around. And I feel the best way I can pay all the people who stuck by me is to try and help others in a similar place that I was. That is what iSurvived.
